Stephen Leahy

Director Of Green Technology Research

Steve became a member of the 13D brain trust in 2021. He is an award-winning journalist and author specializing in sustainability, climate science and environmental issues for more than 20 years. His focus at 13D is showing clients the opportunities among the pathways to sustainability and decarbonization including: circular economies, carbon markets, low-carbon buildings, alternative energy, pollution reduction, including plastics, and sustainable food production.

13D has allowed Steve to explore themes crucial to the future of humanity and to dig into original, and sometimes complex, topics most media have yet to even consider.

As an international environmental journalist he has received numerous awards, including Prince Albert/United Nations’ Global Prize, for his reporting in National Geographic, The Guardian, Vice, and The Atlantic, among other leading publications. He has traveled extensively to cover untold stories from remote regions and interviewed thousands of experts ranging from scientists to business leaders to activists and indigenous peoples.

Steve is also the author of “Best Science Book of 2014”: Your Water Footprint: The Shocking Facts About How Much Water We Use to Make Everyday Products

He’s received a number of US and European fellowships and is a journalism graduate from Seneca College in Toronto.

Steve previously had a 10-year career in business as a corporate marketer in publishing, banking and professional services. He is an avid hiker, cross-country skier and, when his knee co-operates, a trail runner who has also run for election as Member of Parliament in Canada.
