Lachlan Nieboer recently joined 13D as part of the innovation research team, specializing in critical minerals, which are essential for today’s cutting-edge commercial and defense technologies. With an over-arching focus on international security, Lachlan analyses the technological and geopolitical dynamics associated with critical minerals and their investment implications. Lachlan was drawn to 13D’s contrarian and comprehensive thematic research in understanding the markets and the world.

Before joining 13D, Lachlan managed his own research firm concentrating on the geopolitics of critical minerals. Lachlan is also an affiliate of the Centre for Science and Security Studies (CSSS) at King’s College London (KCL).

He holds a Master’s degree in Intelligence and International Security from the Department of War Studies at KCL, where his thesis explored China’s control over critical mineral supply chains. Lachlan also has an undergraduate degree in Classics from the University of Oxford.

Lachlan is a creative explorer with a diverse background that includes teaching ancient Greek, consulting for a non-profit, and working in the performing arts. His quest to become an expert in each of his endeavors and his thirst for knowledge and mission for service led him to acquiring a deeper understanding of the international security landscape. Lachlan is also a dedicated yoga and meditation practitioner, classical music enthusiast, and competitive cricketer.
