In the late 1990s, we published a series of memos—Notes from Finland—after visiting Helsinki where we saw the future of digital communications and it was clear to us there would eventually be five billion smartphones. Now, Finland is once again leading the world in next-generation wireless and has emerged as a torch bearer for the growing determination on the continent to become a global contender for 5G leadership.
