The dawn of a new industrial revolution? The implications of increasing integration of artificial intelligence software into robotic and 3D desktop manufacturing systems.

In WILTW April 28, 2011, we explored how 3D desktop manufacturing systems will transform manufacturing.  In WILTWs November 10, 2011 and November 24, 2011, we made the case that industrial robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) pattern recognition software were poised to boom.  A growing amount of intelligence is now migrating to, and residing in, the cloud network (i.e. the Internet), and robotic digital manufacturing systems are beginning to communicate with, and download applications from, the cloud.  This means that in the near future an unlimited number of robots will be instantly able to acquire the knowledge learned by one robot.
