Will precision farming disrupt the $100 billion pesticide and seed industry?

As we outlined in WILTW November 1, the global food complex is being disrupted by a number of inexorable trends, chief among them, population growth, climate change, resource limits and shifting consumer tastes. Arguably, the greatest disruption is happening at the farm-level itself, where technology is being customized to increase outputs, while reducing environmental pollution. A number of innovative companies are moving to dramatically reduce the use of herbicides. Investors in agrochemical giants take note.
